Criminal Suspect Observed on Oxford Dr.

There was a delayed incident reported this evening of a criminal suspect on Tuesday before noon seen quickly going in and out of properties on the 3100 block of Oxford.

The neighbor reported noticing a guy walking up the Oxford Dr. hill from Princeton.  He didn’t think too much about it until he observed the person darted into a driveway and came out pretty quickly. He then passed the neighbors home and where he was watched from a window and saw him again go up the driveway of a adjacent to Kara and Jack’s home and into the backyard. The neighbor went out immediately and shouted to the person to come to out so the neighbor could talk to him.  The person took off and darted across another yard and then west on Bexley. The police were called and they had three cars on the street in about ten minutes looking for the person.

The description of the person was a slender light skinned African-American or of near Eastern descent. He had on what might have been a workout outfit, dark blue with some red piping and he had white earbuds on.

A reminder that when your at work criminals are also at work looking for easy opportunity to access homes.  Keep your doors and windows secured when away from your home.  An armed alarm system is the best deterrent to protect your home.

Attempted Break In – Yorkdale

Police were called into the area today when a home owner on Yorkdale heard someone attempting to break in their home. Police were noticed patrolling the area around 1 PM actively looking.

No other details are available at this time. Please take precautions with securing doors and windows to prevent easy access.

Watch Advisory: Suspicious Truck Seen Canvassing Neighborhood

Greetings Neighbors.  I hope everyone is staying safe and warm during our snow weekend.

On the topic of safe we wanted to pass on a warning that our neighborhood may be being watched by persons looking for easy homes to target.  One of our reliable neighbors reported that last week on Tuesday during the night a suspicious truck was noticed going up and down Oxford and passed their house at least 8 times.  Since a window was opened at the home a voice possible speaking on a cell phone was overheard coming from the truck and the person stated “there was a woman in that house”.  The police were called and while on the phone with the police the truck was seen one more time.  Eventually a squad car did come and patrol the street but we don’t know if the police found the truck or not.

With that said we wanted to have all neighbors aware of the incident and to be sure to secure your home when away and when at home especially at night.  Criminals will at times enter your home even if you are at home if they see an easy entrance.  Consider an alarm system if you don’t have one and if you do have an alarm do not forget to arm it.

University Estates Honored with NNO 2016 Community Award

award-clipartUniversity Estates Durham has received the 2016 National Night Out Neighborhood/Community award.  UED was one of 7 communities in the entire United States to have this honored bestowed.  Despite the weather challenges and setup challenges this community was able to come together when needed most and have a most successful event.  I am so proud of all the volunteers and organizers.

We will certainly need to celebrate the accomplishment.

We would also like to recognize the Durham community of Earl Road which also was honored for 2016.  (See the complete list of communities awarded below.)

Neighborhood 20 mph Speed Limit

With school back in session we have more children on our neighborhood streets either walking or biking there way to or from school.  Also after school there may be more children playing in front of their homes.

Please help us keep our streets safe for them by keeping to posted speed limits of 20 mph.  Several concerns have been raised by parents as cars driving in the neighborhood have been well in excess of the posted speed limits.  More so on streets without speed control measures in place such as Yorkdale Ct.

We want to make this neighborhood safe for all our families.  Please drive safely.
