Amid the temperature fluctuations, buds on many bushes and trees are swelling. Some bushes such as the winter jasmine have already been blanketed with tiny yellow flowers. Crocus and Daffodils are popping up and already blooming in some yards. Our hellebores are all blooming as well. The songs of some birds have begun to become more pronounced, especially the bluebirds as they begin to stake their territory and select birdhouses to commence nesting in the coming weeks.
Unfortunately, due to human influence many invaluable song birds are in decline. Feral cats are responsible for up to 3 billion needless songbird deaths annually. Also, global warming is impacting climate and wildlife populations, including our state and national songbirds.
Cats are wonderful companions. Consider keeping your cat indoors, or respect other neighbors wildlife by keeping them confined to your property.
    Meantime, spring is springing!
