Ellerbe Creek Trail Assaults

Durham police are investigating a sexual assault that happened last week on the Ellerbe Creek Trail near Washington Street and West Club Boulevard. The victim told officers she was walking on the trail around 6:15 p.m. when a male came up behind her, choked her into unconsciousness and pulled her into the woods, where he sexually assaulted her. The woman was taken to the hospital for treatment. The victim was unable to provide a description of her attacker.

An incident was also reported on the trail on October 22. A woman told officers she was walking on the trail near Dacian Avenue around 5:15 p.m. when a male came up behind her and choked her. The male did not sexually assault her. The suspect was described as a black male wearing black jogging pants, a white tank top and a blue and red hat. He was about 5’9 with a muscular build and about 140-150 lbs. His hair was described as a short afro with the front part of his hair colored “tan” or “colored like a cheetah.” It is possible his hair was bleached. Anyone with information about either of these incidents is asked to call Investigator B. Jones at (919) 560-4440, ext. 29330 or CrimeStoppers at (919) 683-1200. CrimeStoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases and callers never have to identify themselves.
